Warming centers open in Michiana to combat the cold…

With dangerous temperatures and wind chills expected this week, there are a number of warming centers for those in need.

There are centers open in South Bend, Elkhart, and Warsaw that are available during the day, including the Charles Black Community Center, the YMCA O’Brien Center, and the Pinhook Community Center in South Bend.

In Elkhart the Faith Mission is open on Benham, and in Warsaw the Fellowship Missions have hours every day this week.

In Benton Harbor the Salvation Army location on Michigan Street is open Tuesday through Friday.

Come see our upgrades to the Community Center! New kitchen sink and lighting. We aren’t done yet, but it is really shaping up…

New sinks with hand washing station…in progress!

Men’s restroom getting a facelift…

Now’s the time to apply for home-heating assistance in Indiana… Indiana’s Energy Assistance Program provides a one-time annual amount to approved households to help with their heating costs, usually if utilities have been or are about to be disconnected.

With the weather change, pickleball has come to an end, for now, but that doesn’t mean the fun stops! We now have a ping pong table for indoor fun…we are planning a Game Night at the Community Center, sponsored by Friends of German Township, to keep us busy and getting together, ping pong, corn hole, card games…come help us put this together!

Hey…have you heard? We now have a pickleball court!! If you would like to play, just give Marsha a call at 574-532-6023 to schedule court time. This is just a start, we hope to enhance things as we go forward, as interest demands. Join us for the fun and exercise…

Not just a pickleball court, but a pavilion to rest and shade to stay cool! And HID lighting as it gets dark…

The I&M Neighbor to Neighbor Program is working to help Indiana residents who may be struggling to pay their electric bill.

Utility assistance grants are disbursed on a first-come, first-served basis for eligible participants.

Customers are able to choose a fixed monthly amount to donate to the program, or they can round up their bills to the next whole dollar with the excess going to the Neighbor to Neighbor Program.

For those who have the means, providing a donation can help someone supply heat for their home or to afford groceries for their family.

Those looking to make a donation or to learn about the program can visit the I&M website to learn more.

Do you know a Senior that needs help with food? Real Services has a new program that can help…here is a link to their information.

South Bend partners with organizations to assist with covering past-due utility bills.
